More about us

The course is continually maturing, trees planted in the early days are now to be seen in their full beauty and the fairways and greens would do justice to many a more famous course. There are stunning views of the Belfast Lough, the Antrim Hills, the Irish Sea and the coast of Scotland from the top of the 4th hill and the view from the Clubhouse windows, after a successful round cannot be beaten. Due to the professional and untiring efforts of the ground staff and successive Councils, the course has attracted some major events, including the Ulster and Irish Professional Championships and Pro-Ams in which such names as Christy O’Connor Senior, Fred Daly, Peter Allis, Tony Jacklin and Roberto de Vincenzo featured. The professional record was set up in August 1962 when Christy O’Connor senior scored 62 with nine birdies, eight pars and an eagle at the 460 yard 5th hole. The total length of the golf course is 6410 yards from the medal tees, Standard Scratch is 71 and although not an especially difficult course, it is enough of a challenge to entertain good players without discouraging the less able.”

Until recently our Professional was Michael Bannon who now coaches Rory McIlroy and you will often see Rory and Michael throughout the year on the course or practice fairway perfecting his skills before the next competition.

The Club was founded in 1903 with a nine hole golf course. The 18 hole layout was designed by James Braid and although it has been modified it still retains many of its original features.

The course has been redesigned in recent years to modern standards and presents the golfer with a challenge in scenic surroundings.

You will find a lot of information about our golf club and what we can provide for visitors on this website, including a guide to green fees, catering and other services.
